Hi, I’m Madison Smith, I am a graduate of the UConn Journalism Department, and I fell in love with broadcast journalism when I started to do my middle school’s news in 2011-2012. I joined because it seemed fun and I fell in love with it and saw the production of the news get better, before the fall of 2013, Even though the production got better the basic script was still the same. I then did the school news in high school when I was a senior and helped create a new section on the news that they, unfortunately, do not do anymore called club talks. It was the club version of the sports section.
Some of my career aspirations are to edit audio and/or video for radio or television. I originally wanted to be an on-camera personality but then Professor Steven Kalb told me that my editing skills are better than my on-camera work and he has even called me an editing monster.
Some of my skills include Adobe Premiere Pro, Audition, and Photoshop. From my student work experiences, I know how to create content for Instagram, X, and MailChimp. I have also learned how to use the accounting software called Concur. Through my experiences going to school, I have learned how to use the Microsoft and Google suites. I know how to problem solve from working at Dunkin Donuts because of misunderstandings between myself and customers. One time a deaf customer came to order when I was working by myself so I quickly grabbed some receipt paper and wrote on it if he could write me out his order if I needed to clarify I would write on the paper and then let the customer write down their answer.
